To cancel Ligue 1+, first identify who billed you, which commitment you bought and when its cancellation deadline falls. Monthly payments can belong to an annual contract, and the direct service's rules differ from a distributor's. This France-market guide, checked on 1 October 2026, explains the timing, seller-specific routes and renewal-price questions that supporters have raised. A successful request, an effective end date and a refund are separate outcomes.
Start with the contract, not the monthly price
The confusion begins with a familiar football decision: you want to watch an important game, see a monthly amount and assume you can leave after that month. That assumption can turn a one-match purchase into a much longer household expense. Before choosing a cancellation route, identify the exact product you bought. A payment taken every month tells you how the bill is collected; it does not, by itself, tell you when your contractual commitment ends.
Why two similar prices can mean different commitments
The official France offer page, checked on 1 October 2026, illustrates the trap. It displays a €19.99 monthly Pass Ligue 1 with a twelve-month commitment and a €19.99 Pass Mobile without commitment. The two-screen monthly pass without commitment is displayed at €24.99. The identical €19.99 figure therefore cannot identify the contract. Read the product name and commitment label together rather than guessing from which amount looks more expensive.
In one supporter discussion, a poster said they chose the higher-priced option because they thought it avoided the promotional offer's annual commitment, then found a twelve-month term in their account. Replies included a subscriber who reported cancelling a flexible product without difficulty. Those experiences explain the question; they do not prove that every customer saw misleading checkout wording. The original post's absolute date could not be verified.
For someone following a club throughout the season, a commitment may fit their plans. For someone buying access for a derby, flexibility may matter more than the headline price. Decide how long you want access before deciding what a discount is worth. If you need the broader viewing comparison, our France viewing guide covers plans and equipment. Here, the question is how your existing purchase ends.
Find the three details that decide your next step
Open your confirmation email or receipt and record three things: the seller that billed you, the product and its commitment end date, and the cancellation deadline shown in the applicable conditions. Keep the activation date alongside them. Do not substitute the date of your next bank debit for the end of the commitment: those dates answer different questions. If a field is unclear, ask the seller to confirm it in writing before relying on a guessed anniversary.
This small record turns an open-ended complaint into a specific request. You can ask to prevent the next renewal, challenge a charge that contradicts your confirmation, or ask why access continues after a request. Each has a different answer. A screenshot from another fan's account can suggest what to look for, but your own order confirmation is the useful starting point for deciding which question applies.
When does a direct cancellation actually take effect?
For a subscription bought directly from the service, use the French terms dated 10 September 2026, particularly articles 3.4 and 3.5.2. They distinguish the date you submit a request from the date the subscription ends. The following deadlines concern that direct contract. A partner purchase needs its own conditions, even when the football on screen is the same.
No-commitment subscriptions and the seven-day deadline
Direct no-commitment cancellation normally takes effect at the current billing-period end. A request within the seven days before that expiry instead takes effect after the following period, which is billed normally. Access continues until the effective end.
That makes the word “flexible” worth reading carefully. If your plan is to stop after a particular month's football, set a reminder well before its billing expiry. Waiting until the evening before a debit can leave you with another period you did not intend to buy. The sensible buffer is larger than the minimum: it leaves time to find the correct account, resolve a login problem and obtain a clear confirmation.
After submitting, look for the actual end date rather than only a successful-request message. Save it with your receipt. Continued playback is not, by itself, evidence that cancellation failed, because access can remain available until the agreed end. Conversely, a working stream is not evidence that renewal has been switched off. Check the subscription status separately from whether the match plays.
Annual commitments and the thirty-day renewal deadline
For direct committed products, request cancellation at least thirty days before the current term ends. Otherwise, the terms provide renewal for the same duration. Requesting during the commitment does not ordinarily end it immediately; access continues to its end.
Think of this as two decisions: you bought the present term, and you can instruct the seller not to start another. A supporter disappointed by their team's form may want to stop watching now, but that feeling does not establish an early contractual exit. State which outcome you are requesting. “Please stop renewal at my current term's end” is clearer than “cancel everything”, especially when you also dispute how the original sale was presented.
A club's final league game and your subscription anniversary need not coincide. If you joined around a September derby, do not assume the last spring match is your contract's expiry. Use the date displayed for your own subscription and ask about any discrepancy with your confirmation email. You can consult the fixture schedule to judge which games remain within paid access, but it cannot calculate the contract deadline for you.
Fixed-end offers are a separate case
The terms identify the historical 2025/26 Pass Mi-Saison: its fixed end was 24 August 2026, with a ten-day advance cancellation requirement; absent cancellation, it renewed into an annual subscription. That is a special old offer, not the ordinary monthly rule.
If you bought it, check the renewal confirmation now rather than describing yourself as a half-season subscriber indefinitely. Product names can survive in an old receipt even after the contract has moved into a different term. Keep the original offer and subsequent notices together, then ask the seller which contract currently governs the account. This matters most when an apparent end-of-season purchase becomes a new season's financial obligation. Treat the documented end date as the starting point, and deal separately with any concern about the notice or the sale.
Cancel with the company that sold your subscription
The logo on a match broadcast does not identify the company responsible for your bill. Start with the purchase receipt, then use that seller's cancellation controls. This is especially useful when a household watches on several screens: the television, phone and laptop can show the same service without having created three identical purchase routes.
Direct website purchases
For a direct purchase, sign into the official Ligue 1+ website with the email used for the order and open the subscription-management area. The official FAQ describes a Subscription tab and cancellation control. Treat the label as guidance: follow the account's current termination process through to its confirmation, rather than assuming that opening a menu completes the request.
Check that the product and email match your receipt before submitting. If the website shows no paid subscription, compare the order account with the account you entered; do not buy again simply to reveal a cancellation option. Save the resulting end date. If the process fails, report the step and error to direct support with your order reference. A mobile app without an obvious cancellation button is a reason to use the appropriate account-management route, not evidence that the contract is impossible to end.
Apple or Google billing
If your receipt confirms Apple billing, use Apple's subscription instructions. On an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, choose Subscriptions, select the subscription and use Cancel Subscription. Apple also provides a web route. If it is missing, check which Apple Account appears on the receipt. The account belonging to the person who paid may differ from the account currently signed into the device.
For a confirmed Google Play purchase, open Google Play's subscriptions under the purchasing Google Account, select the product, choose Cancel subscription and finish the instructions. Google explicitly says uninstalling the app does not cancel its subscription. Deleting an icon may feel like leaving the service, but it is not a billing instruction.
These routes apply to platform-billed orders. Downloading Ligue 1+ from an app store does not prove that the store collected your payment. Check the displayed renewal or expiry details, and any instalment obligations for the selected plan, before assuming a cancellation removes every remaining payment. Keep the platform confirmation with the original receipt so the request can be traced.
Prime Video and television operators
For an Amazon-billed add-on, Prime Video directs users to Account & Settings, then Subscriptions, where they select the add-on, unsubscribe and confirm. Its confirmation displays the end date. Read the Ligue 1+ order's commitment alongside that date: a general channel-help page does not promise an early release from your specific plan. Normal cancellation also does not automatically refund previous charges.
Orange provides a particularly useful example of why the seller matters. Its current Ligue 1+ conditions distinguish committed options bought before 25 June 2026 from those bought from that date. The earlier version moves to monthly renewal unless cancelled within its stated deadline; the later version renews for successive twelve-month periods and requires at least one month's notice. Manage the Orange option through its customer area, including Offre et options, and confirm which version applies.
Orange's monthly option guidance also uses a calendar-month rule with a last-three-days cut-off, illustrating why the direct service's seven-day billing-period rule cannot be copied everywhere. For Free, SFR, Bouygues, DAZN or another seller, consult that purchase's conditions and account controls. Before switching to a new distributor, establish the old subscription's end date. Two valid subscriptions can overlap even when you intended the new one to replace the first.

Check a loyalty discount before treating the display as a charge
Another source of anxiety is the difference between an expected loyalty price and the standard amount shown in an account. A screen displaying €19.99 is worth checking when your renewal communication promised €16.99, but the screen alone does not establish what the final invoice will charge. Read the whole renewal message, including any reduction, its duration and the product it covers.
A supporter thread about this mismatch is instructive because it contains a resolution update. The poster initially said their account showed €19.99 despite expecting €16.99. They later reported a support response saying that the loyalty reduction would be applied automatically to eligible accounts even while the standard price was displayed. Another participant described seeing a reduction schedule appear. These are individual reports of clarification, not evidence that every old subscriber's bill was correct.
The qualification “eligible” matters. June reporting on the loyalty offer describes restrictions on qualifying previous subscriptions and acknowledges uncertainty about Black Friday treatment. The official general offer announcement is a guide to standard products, not a confirmation of your personal loyalty entitlement. An old account, a previous payment or a friend's discount is not enough to settle your own eligibility.
A useful check has three parts. First, find the renewal email or offer addressed to you, with its exact product and benefit period. Second, compare that promise with the subscription screen, noting whether it shows a gross amount before a separate reduction. Third, compare the next actual invoice and completed debit with the promised net amount. A forthcoming charge, an invoice and a bank transaction are separate records; do not describe one as another when asking support to investigate.
If the invoice differs, send the seller the promised price and the charged amount for the same billing period. Ask whether a discount was omitted, whether the offer applied to another product, and how any correction will appear. Keep the answer with the invoice. If you intend to leave regardless of the discount, protect the cancellation deadline while the price question is being answered. A support conversation about money should not be assumed to stop renewal. That keeps a disputed €3 difference from distracting you from the larger decision about another subscription term.
If cancellation or billing still looks wrong
A complaint is easier to assess when it identifies one problem and one requested outcome. A missing cancellation control, a renewal you tried to prevent, a disputed discount and an allegedly unclear sale need different evidence. Explain what happened in order, and separate what the seller's documents say from what you expected when you purchased.
Keep a useful record and ask a precise question
Keep the original order confirmation, relevant renewal notices, your cancellation submission or error, any displayed end date, and the invoice you dispute. Include dates and the order reference in a private message. If you believe checkout wording was ambiguous, preserve the wording you actually saw if available; a current offer page may not show the same promotion. A useful request asks the seller to identify your commitment end, confirm whether renewal is disabled, and explain the specific disputed charge.
For a direct account, the current official contact is [email protected]. For distributor billing, address the seller's support team. Keep the correspondence in one trail so a later reply can be compared with the original request. Do not post payment details, passwords or full receipts in public supporter discussions. If you receive a general response that does not answer the date or amount, ask the same precise question again with the reference attached.
If the seller still refuses a cancellation you believe met the conditions, Service Public's guidance describes written complaints and consumer mediation. SignalConso also accepts reports about unwanted renewals or ignored cancellation, forwarding them to the company and making them visible to the DGCCRF. Reporting a problem does not guarantee a refund or itself supply your subscription's effective end date.
Cancellation, withdrawal and refunds are different requests
Cancellation ends a subscription according to its applicable rules. Withdrawal concerns undoing a purchase where that right applies. A refund request asks for money back on a particular basis. Do not treat all three as interchangeable buttons, or assume “I cancelled” proves that every past payment must be returned.
The direct terms state that confirming immediate access involves consent and loss of withdrawal rights. The DGCCRF explains digital-content exceptions involving express consent and waiver, so an unconditional fourteen-day cooling-off promise would be misleading. If you dispute what you consented to, ask the seller for the checkout confirmation and seek guidance on that evidence. Store and distributor purchases require their own withdrawal conditions.
Renewal-notice duties are another separate issue. Service Public explains that failure to provide required information can affect a consumer's ability to end a renewed contract. Check your email, archived notices and the seller's record before claiming that this happened to you. Missing a message personally and the seller failing its duty are not automatically the same thing. Ask about the applicable rights for your specific documents rather than adopting another subscriber's conclusion.
Finally, make the requested remedy explicit: stop the next renewal, confirm the paid-access end, correct a discount, or explain a refund refusal. Record the answer and check it against the next invoice. Once the dates agree, you can decide which remaining fixtures to watch or whether to arrange another viewing route. The useful endpoint is a documented subscription end and a reconciled bill, giving you a clear choice about the next season of football.
